Customer Requests Received

At The Open University of Japan, we managed the submission of assignments from approximately 85,000 distance learning students through two methods: postal mail and a web system using Moodle.

Task 1
85,000 participants, approximately 250 courses. It is not realistic for administrators to manually set up all 250 courses.
It takes a huge amount of time and increases the risk of human error. You were considering measures to improve efficiency and prevent setting omissions.

Task 2
System downtime is never allowed for paid services. It was necessary to verify the current system configuration in preparation for an increase in the number of users.

Task 3
Moodle has frequent minor version updates.
Initially, it was planned to be carried out by the person in charge of operation, but they were unable to do so due to other tasks and could not implement it.

Points of Proposal

Point01.

Proposed and developed a function to set various items in bulk on Moodle. This achieved business efficiency through automation and prevention of setting omissions.

Point02.

Performed load testing on the current system and conducted parameter tuning based on the results.
Through parameter tuning, we were able to reduce response time.
Furthermore, we conducted additional load testing to identify the cause of the system bottleneck and proposed the optimal hardware specifications.

Point03.

We have conducted updates for middleware and Moodle in the verification environment and production environment on behalf of the responsible party.

Customer Feedback

We were able to develop various Moodle tools such as bulk registration for courses, which helped streamline our operations.
Through tuning our server, we were able to achieve the best performance and increase processing speed.
We greatly appreciate your support and advice regarding Moodle version upgrades, including their relationship with updates to our server's OS and middleware. Your assistance was also invaluable during on-site adjustments at our campus.

From Human Science representative

As needed, we were able to set up meetings with your contact person and hardware maintenance personnel to facilitate smooth development.

We also listened to the purpose of using the development function and were able to make proposals with less development time, which was good.

In addition, there were situations where we could not immediately attend due to geographical conditions between our company and The Open University of Japan, but by utilizing web conferences, we were able to resolve misunderstandings that could not be conveyed through words, which was very helpful.
