AUTOBACS SEVEN CO., LTD., the largest chain of car accessory stores in Japan, operates and franchises stores such as "Autobacs" and "Super Autobacs".
To keep the staff interested, they used to feature characters using Flash, which was the mainstream at the time, and achieved complex animations and interactive movements.
However, with the end of Flash Player support, it became necessary to switch from Flash.
For general e-learning materials, even if they are of the type that can be played with Flash Player, they can be easily converted to mp4, but for more elaborate movements like those of Autobacs Seven, it is necessary to manually recreate them using a production tool called AnimateCC and adjust them one by one.
It requires cost and time, and there are limited technicians and production companies that can handle it.
In such a situation, Human Science Co., Ltd. was contacted in August 2018.
Director of Human Resources Planning Department, Mr. Yuji Naguchi
Points of Proposal
When rebuilding to HTML5, we received quotes and sample creation inquiries from multiple e-learning production companies under the following conditions:
- We want to prioritize delivery time and cost, so we would like to use videos such as mp4 as much as possible.
- However, for areas with interactions or quizzes, we will rebuild them using Animate CC.
At Human Science Co., Ltd., we investigated data from all 32 materials and created samples for 3 types of HTML5 conversion and migration:
①Video version (MP4)
②Interaction version (recreated in HTML5)
③Hybrid version (video & interaction)
We also made proposals for specifications.
At AUTOBACS SEVEN, in addition to revamping the teaching materials, there were plans to change the e-learning system (LMS).
We considered multiple LMS options and from Human Science Co., Ltd., we conducted a specification survey for two types of LMS (differences in functionality and UI compared to the previous LMS) and also simultaneously proposed a specification design for the teaching material changes and presented conditions for viewing on mobile devices.
As a result, we received an order in December 2018 and from January to June 2019, we converted, modified, and migrated 32 teaching materials to HTML, as well as registered and verified them on the LMS.
Customer Feedback
"We reached out to multiple companies, but the production companies were unable to provide source files, or the estimates they provided were equivalent to starting from scratch.
Human Science provided a proposal within the originally planned cost and delivery date.
From the proposal stage, we were able to discuss specific HTML conversion plans while looking at the content together. The proposal also included the flexibility to handle the number of revisions and schedule adjustments for smartphone compatibility, which was one of the deciding factors for placing the order.
In reality, even after production began, the support and quality were impeccable, and we were able to confidently place our trust in them."

From Human Science representative
"In order to remake and convert materials for playback with Flash Player, an editing source file called ".fla" is necessary, but it is often difficult to obtain due to staff transfers or expiration of storage periods at production companies.
Also, while Flash requires Action Script and HTML5 requires JavaScript, there are not many e-learning production companies that possess both technologies.
At Human Science, a certain number of technicians are affiliated and since 2012, we have handled numerous conversion projects from Flash and accumulated know-how, allowing us to propose solutions at a lower cost compared to other companies.
We will continue to support our customers' education and training with our technology in the future."
