Transitioning from in-person certification exams to an online exam using Moodle.
The examinees and examiners gathered at the testing venue to conduct the certification medical examination, but it became impossible to do so due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Moodle has been introduced and it is now possible to conduct the examination online.

<Reasons for Introducing Moodle>
The Japan Society of Gerodontology has been operating certification exams every year. "Certified dentists" are dentists who have acquired basic knowledge and treatment skills (or skills) for dental care required by the elderly.
Until now, the exam was conducted using posters and written tests. Candidates and examiners gather at the exam venue, and candidates give poster presentations in front of the examiners. However, due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, it became impossible to conduct the exam in person. Therefore, online implementation was considered and the learning management system was introduced.
<Pre-Moodle Operations>
Before using Moodle, exams were conducted by gathering in an exam room. For example, if there were 50 examinees, they would be divided into several groups to give presentations. Each group would have two judges. The examinees would give their presentations and then participate in a Q&A session.
Afterwards, the judges would evaluate and record their scores on evaluation sheets. While listening to the presentations, the two judges would each create one question for each examinee. After the presentations, the judges would email the questions to the presenters and evaluate their answers. The administrative staff would collect the results and check them. These operations were conducted using Dropbox, Google Forms, etc.
Reasons for Choosing Moodle
Many of the professors at the conference were affiliated with universities where Moodle was used, making it very easy to accept.
In addition, by conducting meetings and evaluations online, Moodle was a perfect match for the desire to securely manage and share information among stakeholders.

How Moodle has changed our operations since its implementation
With Moodle, we are now able to conduct the following tasks online:
Presentations for exams are conducted through Zoom on Moodle. Two examiners will watch the presentation and conduct a Q&A session, and then register the evaluation sheet on Moodle. The examiners use the "assignment" function on Moodle to create questions and have the examinees answer them. The examiners then check the answers and inform the administration department of the pass or fail decision through a message on Moodle. Afterwards, the administration department will inform the examinees through a message on Moodle.
By incorporating Moodle and going online, we are now able to securely manage and share information internally. The evaluation method for exams has also been improved, allowing for more efficient evaluation meetings. This has also shortened the duration of meetings. We feel that it is necessary to continue utilizing Moodle and its functions in accordance with the operation of the academic society in the future.

About the current operation of Moodle
Currently, there are about 30 categories created and used on Moodle. We are considering using it for board member elections in the future. We also have plans to further utilize Moodle.
