What is the ATD Japan Summit?

On November 22, the ATD 2016 Japan Summit was held. Many speakers from overseas participated and passionately discussed topics such as education and human resource development. This event is suitable for corporate executives, HR personnel, and those in charge of talent/organizational development.

Japan's position in the field of education cannot be said to be ahead of not only the United States but also other developed and developing countries. Many theories and technologies originate from the United States and are practiced in various countries, eventually being imported to Japan. In this context, the ATD (ATD Japan Summit) presents a significant opportunity to directly learn about the cutting-edge theories from the United States and practical examples from around the world.

Our company (Human Science) participated in this event as a sponsor.

    * ATD (Association for Talent Development) is the world's largest talent development organization with a network of over 70,000 members worldwide. The event "ATD ICE" held annually in the United States attracts over 10,000 participants from around the globe. Over the course of four days, more than 300 sessions and over 400 exhibits are held here.

    Session Overview

[Session Introduction (Case Studies of Global Companies)]

This time, Emulates NBD, which introduced the group's initiatives, achieved a 5% business impact (2014) and transformed education significantly within a few years since the start of the e-learning implementation project in 2011. It was discussed how they realized an organization with a culture of learning through mobile learning and microlearning. From the cases of two other companies, glimpses were seen of the reasons why they succeeded as a growing global company through innovative human resource development initiatives.

    [Session Introduction (Training Effect)]

Only 20% of training, such as workshops, is utilized in the workplace. This is according to Prof. Robert O. Brinkerhoff. It is important how supervisors and the workplace engage with the trainees before and after the training, rather than the trainees themselves.
An impressive piece of advice directed towards Japan was, "Training should start with a small group that wants to achieve results; if successful, it will spread to others."

Session Introduction (Education from the Perspective of Neuroscience)

Regarding Neuro Science, which considers education and organization from a scientific perspective such as the brain and neurochemicals, Dr. André Vermeulen took the stage. He focuses on global talent development within Neuro Science. His viewpoint is that there are more commonalities in the brain than differences caused by "language" or "culture." He passionately introduced the necessity of using Neuro Science to unlock human "learning abilities" and connect them to performance.

    Overview of the Exhibition Booth

The exhibition booth featured 16 companies and organizations, offering a wide range of comprehensive content including training, e-learning, and consulting services.

Human Science exhibited at this event, focusing on the "Global e-Learning Development" introduced in a previous blog.
We showcased LMS (Totara), localization of teaching materials, infographic materials, and more, and it was a meaningful experience where we could exchange valuable opinions on various topics with everyone.
